....change all the locks on the storage compartments of our TT while watching the sky. It always bugged us that everyone's key fits almost all storage compartments. It is easy for someone to grab power cords, hitch parts etc. Hubby brought home all new locks, so after going out for a fish and chips dinner we changed locks. The original ones were so flimsy and we had a hard time getting the key in. No more headaches, nice new locks. Now for the TT to go to the dealer for a couple of weeks for warranty work. Hopefully we can also address the axle situation and tires wearing out so soon.

Putting good locks on a door that can be pried open with a screw driver or decent pocket knife is counter productive. If they can jimmy a cheap lock and not destroy the compartment door you are probably better off. They are going to get what they want either way.

I've never put much faith in any of the RV locks. The aluminum frames all spring out very easy and usually go right back into place. Anything important stays with my truck including my 2KW Honda Generator. It all goes where I go...On my OFF-ROAD POPUP you just simply run your hand through the VELCRO flap around the door and reach inside to open it. I can actually do this quicker than sitting down groceries when I return from the grocery store then fumbling around in my pockets trying to find my keys hehe...There is a PLUS SIDE of every one having the same lock. You can always get in by just borrowing the neighbors key hehe...Roy ken

I agree the thief who wants to get in anywhere will. However, having a different lock might make the odd camper who thinks he can steal because he doesn't look guilty....he has a key that fits! Or he thinks he does.

You have to read the title and the OP's post. They said that during a tornado watch they changed there locks.

As for changing the locks, I only go to the small local parks. I'm just a weekend camper. Around here I don't worry about someone breaking in. I just leave the key in the lock.

When replacing the locks it is best to put locks on both the old lock and the thumbscrew side. This makes it tougher to'Jimmy' it open.

In my 30 years of RVing no one has opened any of my 751 locks. That could be most of the time they are unlocked anyway

We go to the basement of our 5th wheel. Being in the basement ,we can see the latch locks and see if they need replacing or just say heck with it , if someone wants in the will get in. We live in the Mid-West, tornados happen all the time so we have a lot of warnings.

One of my favorite roads is up I-29. One year on the way to I-90 we had a tornado pass in front of us and then one pass behind us. We just kept driving, there was no place to go. Saw a twister while in Nebraska on I-80 and another east of Des Mons on I-80.

How bad of an RV park do you stay in to have people breaking in to your camper all the time?
