- NY_travelersExplorerThanks all
Will put in place some matting and check into Corelle dishware ASAP.. Some of my draws and cabinets open, I like doing about 75/80 on the highways. Will add either magnets or extra clips on doors and draws - chigrlExplorerI put my glasses in a paper carton from beer bottle and the larger glasses in carry out containers from fast food restaurants. The glasses never fall over or break
- et2ExplorerNot ashamed to use paper plates. It's all about being simple when we camp and less chores. If cooking a steak or something we do use Corelle to eat off as it's easier to cut on. We lay down the rubber mat and make sure the cabinet is full to stop stuff from shifting. Not too many issues aft all these years.
Now when someone forgets to secure the fridge before traveling .... :S:E
It can take some time to clean up. :B - rondebExplorerI use the rubber mat on the bottom of shelves, but have found that packing tightly keeps everything in place. I use rolls of paper towels in between everything to keep it tight and always have lots of paper towels. STack of plates then a roll of paper towels, glasses then a roll of paper towels, bowls, paper towel, etc.
- littlemoExplorerI have 3 ofThesethat I place 3 deep with Velcro on the bottom that holds my glasses and cups.
These also work well for bowls.
I use thisfor my plates. I place Styrofoam plates between my Corelle. (This is also velcroed to wall).
My bins for my glasses and cups butts up against my plate holder which keeps plates from shifting when moving.
I find that the rolled out shelf liner that is supposed keep things from sliding don't work well for me. I bought some rugs from Family Dollar for $6 each and lined all my cabinets with them. They are non skid and the tops are not indoor/outdoor but they feel kind of like they are rough coated. I wish I could find a picture. They work great for a non skid surface. You will have to just go look to see what I am talking about. They are very easy to cut with kitchen scissors.
The Bins and dish shelf can be bought at Walmart, kmart, big lots etc. for cheaper. - tatestExplorer IICups and glasses go into a shallow cabinet that holds them tightly when the cabinet is full. Plates stack in a flat drawer that latches itself when closed. Except for two or three coffee mugs, everything is hard tough plastics or shatter-resistant ceramics.
Flat things that like to rattle in a stack get sheets of plastic packing foam; that would be pans, griddles, etc but I would use it for ceramic plates if I wanted to carry the extra weight of ceramics. I am still using packing materials left over from a move 12 years ago, but you can find the sheet foam where moving supplies are sold, like U-Haul. It has largely replaced paper packing materials.
In deep cabinets when larger pans and other larger containers are kept, I will use my paper towel rolls to cushion things and limit movement. A general cabinet loading principle is to use softer things to separate harder things that knock together.
More than choosing and finding packing materials, the solution is more a matter of working out what safely stores where, and how to pack it in so that things have little freedom to move.
When we were RV shopping, my wife inspected the furnishings to work out how she would pack the kitchen, bathroom, wardrobes, where she would put the pantry foods, etc. This was a big factor in choosing the RV we did, we looked at many that did not have storage she would consider usable. She worked out where almost everything goes, for the inside, and since she died I haven't done much to change it. - mowermechExplorer

how do you keep your plates, cups and glasses in place, what do you use and where did you get it?
I just close the cabinet door
Exactly.......
Folks make RVng way too complicated.
We used Corelle plates & bowls, mugs, glass tumblers an glass mixing bowls PLUS a full 8 place setting of Nortake China. All in upper cabinets---stacked.
Just like at home.
In 7 yrs of FT travel the only dish broken was the one I dropped.
X2 Exactly
We don't full time yet, but go at the drop of a hat. I HATE paper plates and cups. We have Corelle also.
X3. while we do have some paper plates and bowls, we also have Corelle. the cupboard is lined with the rubber stuff, but the dishes are just stacked in there just like at home. If we go over rough roads, I slow down. I never could see beating the whole rig (and us) up to get to the destination 2 minutes sooner! Yes, there have been some stretches of "road" that I crossed at 10 MPH or less! - Jim_ShoeExplorerThis is what I bought for the long overhead cabinets, along with a bunch of dowels that fit the holes. I cut two pieces, lined them up so that the holes matched, screwed them together with some 1" x 1" spacers between, and cut the dowels so that they stuck out of the top board about 6 inches. The space between the dowels is highly adjustable. I separate the Corelle plates with cheap paper plates so they don't rattle. Glasses and coffee cups each get their own space, surrounded by dowels. No noise and no breakage so far.
BTW, Corelle won't break, but it will shatter into a bunch of little shards if dropped from a reasonable height at the correct angle.
Sheets of rubber shelf liner keep bigger items from sliding around.
BTW, I store cans of carbonated beverages with the tab facing up. That's the way the trucks that deliver them to the stores do it, and they don't explode on their trucks.
I also learned the hard way that Melamine coffee cups are unbreakable if dropped, but if you pour sufficiently hot coffee into one, a 360 degree crack will instantly appear where the side meets the bottom and the cup will empty itself in every direction instantly. - 2oldmanExplorer IIShocks.
