What grease is best for repacking

I have a AL-KO Ultrulube. It says that I need to use NLGI Grade 2 lithium complex, grease with a minimum dropping point of 400F for the repack.

The only grease I can find in our local shops that indicate dropping temperature is Quaker State Multi-Purpose Grease and Wheel Bearing Lubricant. It has a 525F dropping point, but it does not say "Lithium complex"

The other choice I have is Mystik Hi Temperature Grease, it has "Lithium complex" but does not say what is the dropping point is.

Does anyone know if one of these products will work?

  • I use this for my axles

    clicky

It has all the best of both worlds, synthetic, moly with lithium complex

    DuraBlend® Synthetic Blend Grease
Formulated to provide excellent high and low temperature protection

Provides excellent high- and low-temperature protection (-10°F to 385°F) over conventional greases
    Exceptional resistance to heavy loads
    Moly-Fortified for increased film strength
    Excellent water repellent
    Inhibits rust and oxidation
NLGI #2 GC-LB lithium complex EP grease
  • Any quality wheel bearing grease should do the job. I repack every other year and replace axle seals. I use the red grease from Kendall, but is hard to find at times, nice and sticky and holds up well.

That's what I used with my last repack. Mobil 1 Red Synthetic, picked it up at WalMart. Seems to meet everybody's specs.
  • I use Mystic JT6 NGLI #2 as recommended by my axle manufacturer. I get mine at Tractor Supply

In addition to the temp specs I personally like a grease with Moly in it's formulation for it's better lube and moisture tolerance properties.

  • I think you will find that all NLGI Grade 2 lithium complex grease (designed for wheel bearings) has a high temp drop point. the actual working temp of the bearing is probably significantly lower but high temp is specified due to latent heat added under heavy braking or load conditions. Just curious, I have the same axle make and was wondering how the bearings looked and how much grease was present in the hub if you used the grease fittings to add grease.
