- DutchmenSportExplorer" What is Glamping?
Recently, a global trend has caught fire that offers outdoor enthusiasts an upgrade on rest and recreation. It's called glamping, a new word for a new kind of travel, defined as glamorous camping.
When you're glamping, there's no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no fire to build. Whether in a tent, yurt, airstream, pod, igloo, hut, villa, cabin, cube, teepee or treehouse, glamping is a way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury. "

Glamping - camping with all the luxuries! ;)
Yeah that's my definition and it can be RVing or tenting. I call myself a glamper when tenting with a screen-house, air mattress on a stand, colour coordinated high thread count bedding and camp kitchen in hand.
For RVing it means I have my induction burner, and full tilt boogie table settings.
My menus for any type of camping fer sure verge on glampering.
Some day I hope to go back to my original bicycle camping roots in a glamping mode. Yanno, a dedicated travel van that carries all the gear and meals cooked by a chef (not cook) whose sympathies lay in the whole food philosophy. - azdryheatExplorer41 feet, 3 air conditioners, 4 TV's, DirecTv HD, 2 bedrooms/garage, bath and a half, self-leveling. Glamore + Camping = Glamping. I'm accused of it all the time.
- minnowExplorerSounds like a word that would of originated on Facebook.
- Chuck_thehammerExplorerVery Interesting....
I have never heard or seen that word....
been camping off and on for 50 years.
I camped from a 2 man pup tent to a 30 foot travel trailer... - DrewEExplorer IIGlamping is a portmanteau of "glamorous" and "camping." I've mostly seen it used in regards to some ultra-luxurious tent setup, maybe involving staff or butlers or what have you to actually do all the icky or dirty bits. My experience may be tilted, though.
People who favor tents or less may think of camping in an RV, with a shower and bathroom and kitchen and dining table all at hand, to be glamping. I don't really care what they choose to think; I just enjoy feeling squeaky clean and sipping a cup of tea at the table while in my bathrobe.
("portmanteau" is an interesting word in its own right, and properly refers to a large suitcase or trunk with two halves that can be separated. It comes from the French words for "carry" and "cloak". The application to word coinage was invented by Lewis Carol.) - WalabyExplorer IIPretty much everyone here (including me), who camp in other than a tent, fit the 'glamping' description. Im not ashamed of it... Heck, Im 56 years old, and I've worked hard to be able to 'glamp' in style. Nope, not ashamed in the slightest.
Mike - johnhicksExplorerGlamping is when I glom onto the can of WD-40 to fix what doesn't move.
- GordonThreeExplorerGlamping sounds like having a rental agency setup an RV at a resort, and flying in on a private jet to a nearby airfield for a weekend camping.
