I spent a good part of my working years traveling by myself for the company, designing computer systems in our offices all over the country and then returning to manage the installations. I spent all those nights in cities I didn't choose, sitting on the bed in a hotel watching TV, and eating my meals by myself in the hotel dining room, staring at a wall while waiting for my "gourmet" meal to be served.
I still travel by myself, but I go where I want to go, when I want to go, stay as long as I like, eat what I want to eat, wear what I want to wear which does not include neckties, and I have my "stuff" with me. BONUS POINTS: I know who used the bathroom and shower last.
