It certainly is worthwhile and satisfying to do some work one's self, at least for a retired person. Routine maintenance like oil changes are well worth learning. I have only had our small MH in shops for brake maintenance and new tires in the 9 years we've had it. That will end soon when spark plug replacement time comes up. I need a real mechanic to take care of that.
The increasing complexity of vehicles has really reduced the maintenance done by owners over the last few decades. Some of it doesn't seem healthy, like designs that require you to take a wheel and wheel well off to change an alternator belt on a car. Make work for the dealerships?
