What is the best coating for a rubber roof?

Hello all! I am not only new to this site but I'm also a relatively new RV owner and full timer! I have a 2003 Keystone Montana 5th wheel that is 32' long. I was in the process to start re-sealing the roof with dicor self leveling lap sealant, when I started noticing white stuff chipping off my rubber roof revealing black underneath in a few areas. It is cracked and chalky also. I even found a small whole in the white coating that i cod pull up and put my finger under and see black underneath as well. It needs to be completley re-sealed because the previous owner did a terrible job at maintaining it. I want to recoat and seal the whole thing and was looking at RV Roof Armor but it's pretty expensive and I would have to finance it somehow. I like the idea of someone more qualified doing it and the lifetime warranty that comes with it. I was hoping someone on here could give me a bit of guidance and advise on any DIY coating systems or products. If I can save some money I would like to but I also understand you get what you pay for. I'm gonna probably be in this thing for a year or two before we get serious about buying a house. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! When I figure out how to upload pictures I will post them. Thanks for reading!
  • We are looking at RV roof armor and would appreciate any feedback. We like the idea of not needing to check and recaulk twice a year. I really don't want hubby on the roof.
  • Sounds like the previous owner put a coating of some sort on the roof and it is flaking off. It is doubtful that anything you would apply over it would last.

  • Liquid Roof......did a 5ver I had some years ago....and looked like new.....used to run about 60 bucks a gallon......and took me 2 gallons.
  • Cover your seams, rips, etc., with Eternabond Tape prior to coating the roof. Use Dicor Self Leveling Caulk as needed.
Clean the roof well before applying the Eternabond and coating.
  • This is what I coated my EPDM roof with last year.

So far it is holding up very well. I bought two of the 5 gallon pails for my 30' motorhome. I bought one pail, not really knowing how thick to apply it, and how much area it would cover. Then once I had about 1/2 of the front covered, I decided I would much rather spend the time and money to buy a second pail, than to put it on thinner, and try to make do with one pail. I started putting it on really thick, around my leaking skylight, and over all my solar panel mounts.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
  • I'm still trying to figure out how to upload pictures. I would like to get the RV Roof Armor installed personally. I hope it's not completely dead just yet.
  • Sounds like your roof is dead. Time to suck it up and install a new roof.
  • There are several products that would work.I like Bus Kote I've used it for years.
