There are "Fur kids" and "Fur Grandkids":)
Usually, people will refer to their dogs (and sometimes cats) as Fur Kids, if they don't have any children of their own, or their kids have grown and left the "nest" (gee, another animal analogy:B).
I doubt that any dog love will have an argument with the concept, even if they don't use the term themselves.
Certainly nothing to get upset about.
