- AndymonExplorerWhat else will love you unconditionally?
- FunnyCamperExplorer IIfur kids is a term of endearment like another said.
I don't think people think of these animals as humans. but they are treated very well :) memebers of the family. nothing wrong with that.
I have a little doggie also. I never use that term. He is treated better than some people out there in the world. one lucky little doggie to get into this family. I don't go overboard. He is a dog after all, but he comes camping, leads a great life and will until he is gone :) - M_GO_BLUE1ExplorerMy cat has always been and will always be a part of our family equal in every way to everyone else in our family...
- northmeck0255ExplorerWe have raised service dogs for many years, and are now involved with several different herding dog rescue groups. Dogs are an integral part of our family.
The world would be a much better place if humans were as honest, trustworthy and decent as dogs. - CampinghossExplorer IIWe don't even use fur kids----we say our kids. All of our human kids are grown, gone and I changed the door locks. Our two dogs may not be human but we do have to spell certain words around them.
They are a BIG part of our family. - IndyCampExplorerI have a dog AND a child.
The dog is a member of the family.
Granted, I would not jump in front of a bus and die to save her life like I would for my son, but she is still a very important member of our family.
I hate it when people with children discount the value of pets just because they aren't human. People who do that are probably not very good pet owners, IMO - GrumpyGatorExplorerI have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Better behaved and more caring than most "real" kids.
They are not my "fur kids". I refer to them as my boys and my girls. They are my family.
You keep your human kids and I'll keep my kids. We'll both be happier. - AuntSmurfExplorerWe don't refer to our dogs as our "fur-kids"....they are "The Kids" or "The Girls". But, seldom are they referred to as "The dogs"! :B But then, when I want them to go inside, I normally say "Inside, Please" and when they get in, I say "Thank you!" They mind better than our human kids ever did....All except Sophie. Roxie used to give me a look that says "but I don't want to". Sophie looks at me and says with her eyes "I'm not GOING to!". Then she promptly lays down! (Gotta love her, tho!)

After observing some "kids", refering to pets as "fur kids" could be demeaning to the pet.

Thank You for being judgemental.............
Well, it was YOU who asked the question that you probably knew the answer to. Do these people think that there dog is human...I very much doubt it, but they love it, and it's a part of the family....Fur Kid is just a term of endearment. When I call my wife "Honey", I don't really think she was produced in a hive by a bunch of bees:B (Birds and Bees...maybe:))
One of the first unwritten rules of this forum....if you ask this type of question, you should expect these kinds of responses.:)
