We are more into the camping side of the so called RV'ing... I sort of look at it as RV TRAVELERS and RV CAMPING...
We have all the modern conveniences but really love to camp off the power grid scene and not really too interested of traveling more than a few hours each direction.
Gatlinburg or Myrtle Beach is about as far as we want to get away. Love spending several days camping along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the high country of VA-WVA-NC-SC-TN-GA-AL.
When I was working I was allowed to take the long roads going and coming back from the work sites. This got us to make a couple of home trips to North Texas and camp in SOUTH OKLA and ARK-MIS areas.
Our local camping at SKYLINE DRIVE, SHERANDO LAKE, and WESTMORELAND VA areas are always great camping runs both TENT and OFF-ROAD POPUP setups...
Camping for us is minimal expenses...
It all depends what makes you happy I reckon...
