My dad built the house I was raised in. He built the house in the middle of a corn field. There were never any trees around I could climb. I always dreamed of having a tree house ... shoot... I always dreamed of just climbing a tree!
They planted several trees around the house, but as a kid, they were small and tender. It took another 30 years for them to get mature enough to actually climb. Now my kids enjoyed climbing those trees, but I never had them.
I also wanted a play house all my own. We had a chicken house ... with chickens ... but that just wasn't the same thing.
Time passed, and as adult hood consumed my child dreams with harsh reality, I found myself always wanting that "special" play house, just for me!
Mom and Dad had a travel trailer. I played in it a lot, but Dad always ran me out, said I'd tear it up. So, that was also not an option. And when actually camping, I had to share this little cabin with the rest of the family.
So now I'm married and have kids of my own, and one day I realize I REALLY need to get away from my job, responsibilities at home, and all the stresses of life, and my wife suggested a camper. It was perfect! Hitch up, get away, be a kid, and have my own little play house I never had as a kid!
If I could never move my camper off my drive way again, I'd still keep the camper till the wheels rotted off and the ceiling caved in, because even sitting in my drive way, it's my little escape from everything, if only for a few moments, and puts me in the mind set of when I was a kid, always wanting that special tree-house or play house that was all mine!
But now.... it's even better. My wife and I will be married 30 years soon, and I still get my kicks playing 'show me yours and I'll show you mine' in the camper!
Two thumbs up!! Great story thank you for sharing!
Yup, I was going to say the same thing. And, now that I think about it my camper seems like a play house to me too.
