Ladders are inherently dangerous at any age.
I was doing some painting on my house a few years ago and began to climb down a cheap, A-frame aluminum 6 footer. The ladder shifted and I fell from about 3 feet up a broke my tib/fib. I suspect I landed on my window well lip but, man that was a long recovery!
I bought one of the newer, sturdier "giant" knock-offs and I've been on the roof of my TT and house several time since. We were supposed to attend a wedding in Chicago the week after and luckily Amtrak refunded our money.
