I'm 67 and still regularly up ladders.
I suggest making sure that you are using a very good quality ladder. They come in 3 grades
3 is lightweight - terrible.
2 is medium for tradesmen and farm use - they are good quality
1 is heavy duty for industrial - overkill for us.
Making sure the ladder is stable - can't tip or slide is essential.
If you can yie it off and/or have someone hold it decreases the chance of a proble.
When on the roof when near the edge I get down on hands and knees since I really do not like heights.
