Back in high school I had a buddy that broke his left leg in football. The whole leg was put in one of those big old plaster casts.
He had a hot date one night and wanted to use my mom's 64 Biscayne with a "3 on the tree" stick shift.
After some practice we discovered that he could start the car moving by putting his right foot on the clutch get his left ( broken leg and foot) on the clutch to hold it down . Then he would put the car in gear and put his right foot on the gas. By leaning over to the right he then could get the car moving by letting out on the clutch. Eventually he would let the clutch pedal slip completely off from under his left leg and foot ( that were in the cast) and with a few jumps from the old car he could get underway.
Then to shift he would just use his right foot. He would take his right foot off of the gas, use it to push the clutch down. Shift to the next gear. Then put his right foot back on the gas again.
To stop , he would just bump the transmission into neutral and then use his right foot on the break pedal to stop normally. Just as you always would.
Thankfully , the the car was so wore out that this was easy to do.
We never did tell my parents about this. I borrowed the car , he dropped me off at the roller skating rink, and he went out on his date.
He never did tell me if he got lucky but, he came back early and by the look on his face I knew I should not ask.
I'll never forget that story. lol
