that's why I posed the question to the OP. our TJ 4WD auto tranny is 10-years old but my CJ2A is 67-years old. we have no problems towing the wrangler but I would never consider towing my '46 CJ2A on anything but a flat trailer.
I suspect that *most* folks shopping for a used Jeep either for a DD or a toad aren't looking beyond 10-years and therefore just about any 4WD jeep...auto or manual...that has a *manually selectable* neutral position in the transfer case can be flat towed. 2WD jeeps are a somewhat different matter but relative to the 4WD versions there aren't as many 2WD jeeps out there.
