I drive slow and I pull over all the time. That's part of why it takes me forever to get anywhere.
I prefer back roads in the country, and there are a lot of locals who know those roads like the backs of their hands and can safely drive them much faster than I can. When I lived in the country I didn't like to be behind a tourist, so I know how it feels.
