Fortunately in mountainous terrain the pullouts are large and have signs when you're approaching them.
We pull the North Cascades (HWY 20) several times a year and find many pullouts really do not allow you to slow and enter safely as there is no notice. Yes, there are some with enough advance warning that work great but overall this is not necessarily the case. I have also noticed the speed limit is (in my estimation) not really a safe speed for towing larger rigs. 60 mph for 300 feet then 35 for the approaching corner...makes for a challenging tow. I do pull over when I can for 1 or more vehicles but I am becoming increasingly less willing to do so in the smaller, unmarked pullouts regardless of how many vehicles behind me.
