What would you do, stay put or pull over?

I pull over in a safe place, even for one vehicle! Why not? Be courteous.

Living and working in a popular vacation spot, I believe this is this most reasonable response. There are people that need to be somewhere, even though you don't, and it doesn't have to be because you have a bone sticking out of your arm or your daughter is in trouble. This also goes for plumbers and electricians that are on the clock the minute they leave the barn and municipal employees that make money no matter how slow they go.

We aren't pulling over all the time for others if we are doing the speed limit. line behind me is behind me. when driving we deal with what is in front of us mostly......now if I was in a mountain terrain doing UNDER the speed and had a line behind us, sure, I would pull over eventually to let some thru cause we are moving slow.....but if I am doing speed limit, they can easily pass, nope, I am not changing what I am doing at all.

there are situations where all of us RV people would pull over and give others a break---then there are situations where other drives (us included) have to deal with whatever is in FRONT of us and deal with it in good manner.

WE are stuck more behind slow moving car drivers in our big rig then there are people stuck behind us LOL I tell hubby to just go up and over them but he won't :)

Gee - how many times do you have to pull over for the idiots riding your bumper on your way to a vacation destination? And I just pulled back on after getting gas 5 minutes ago. You mean I have to pull over again? When does it end?

Those pull outs in the mountains are for emergencies - at least from what I was taught. Who said they would pull over in a merge lane? And do what - stop? Lets start a thread about those RV's sitting in the merge lane! I was also taught the safest way to handle a tailgater is to decelerate - not by braking mind you, and wait until the person started to pass, then speed up just a bit so they don't clip you. Oh and I looked for the 5 car pull over law in Florida - couldn't find it, so this part of the east coast is exempt I guess.

I'm sorry, but I've a right to be on the road same as you and I'm not cow - towing to your incessant need to be first in line. I'm not impeding you if I'm doing the speed limit or 5 mph above it. These laws that deal with non impediment of traffic are not a license for people to go as fast as they want, making you get out of the way because your not doing 80. Give me a ticket for that, and I'll take it to court. The speed limit on a two lane road is set for a reason. If you don't like it, find another route.

Ran into this alot on the last trip. If the speed limit was 55 I'd go 5 over.. same pretty much everywhere except in the city and up to 65. Yes there was a couple lines behind me on the 2 lanes. Didn't care much as I was going 5 over as it was. On the news traffic accidents are up 19%? and most of those are speed related.. just based on the last trip I agree! I always hug the inner white line so those can see behind me. Granted I did run into a few going slower than I.. the old 6.0L has the umph but takes a bit to get the steam up so couldn't pass. Maybe the tickets has merit after all..

Another road is 299 from Redding to 101 . Has some turn-outs and passing lanes ,,, BUT it always seems the slow poke up front singing I love a parade SPEEDS up when he /she gets to the passing lane . Its like a mad dash scramble of cars / trucks trying to get around them. Once its back to single lane they go back to 5 under or slower.
Alot of times they still won't use the turn-outs just poking along till the next passing lane comes along so they can play the game again..


On the flip side of that there have been several occasions both on 299 and HWY 36E there are a few long passing lanes and at the end of them a CHP will be sitting there waiting with the radar on filling his quota for the day ..

There are others that no matter how many vehicles are behind them or how many turnouts there are they will NOT pull over period ...

I rarely look in my mirrors so I wouldn't know if vehicles were stacked up behind me.

If they can't pass a truck/trailer doing 55 mph then they can just look at their reflection of themselves in my big ole rear window

I know IF I come up behind a vehicle then first opportunity I'm hammering down and passing them.....Roll Coal!

I'll pull over frequently in mountainous terrain with limited passing opportunities. As long as there a safe paved area to pull over.

On straight hiways with good lines of sight and ample passing opportunities, I feel the vehicles behind me are on their own. I'll try to give good vision around me, and may rarely pull over on a good shoulder/turnout for someone who seems to be stuck like glue.

I swear I could be going a 100 mph and because I have a trailer behind me, everyone thinks I am going slow. If I am doing the speed limit and you are on my tail, you'll either stay there until there is a three lane wide passing opportunity, or you pass when it is safe.

Here is what I see ALL the time.

Cruise set at the speed limit. I notice a vehicle in my rear view mirror quite a ways back. Before long they are on my bumper. More chances than not to turn on their blinker and continue on their way. Yet, they will just sit there, riding my back side. I'll stick my hand out and try and wave them around...nothing. I'll slow a bit...nothing. I'll pull over to the right side of the lane to give them a clear view...nothing. And this is just on the commute to work in my Jeep.

I have been in the other shoe. Get stuck behind a line of people while following a vehicle that is driving below the speed limit. That first vehicle behind the slow driver is so far up the rear of the driver that you don't have the chance to leap frog around them and the slower driver. Semis doing this is the worst. No chance at all to pass any of them because you can't squeeze between two of them. Again...drive to work in my Jeep.
