Maybe I am reading the "Slow moving vehicle" different, but I take it as referring to SLOW, as in farming equipment or similar traveling down the road that is unable to do the speed limit or close to it. Normal or reasonable movement of traffic to me would be within 5mph of the speed limit (not exceeding). It would be interesting to know when those laws were written, or revised. If they haven't been written or revised in a lot of years then they need to be updated.
I will try to look to see if Mi has a "x" number of vehicles behind one needs to pull over law, but IF you are traveling the speed limit, there is no reason to pull off the side of the road so others can continue at a faster pace. While many state it is courtesy to pull over, how is it courteous of the other drivers to be crawling up your a$$ if you are doing the speed limit. It seems I am in the minority on this topic, but if they are driving careless (or even reckless) by tailgating, and exceeding the speed limit that much then they are doing more harm in that regard than a driver doing the speed limit. Though I will admit to watching the brake lights of a vehicle up ahead to try to see if a patrol car may be lurking just up the road! I do this when not towing traveling down the e-way (freeway).
Yes, there is the arguement of let them by, and get them away from you to make it safer for your family. I understand, and do agree, but to what extent does one do this? If you continuously do this, (unless your retired with no time clock to punch!) how do you get anywhere? Also, if you are that concerned about the actions of others, would it possibly be safer to just stay home? Yes, maybe a little exagerated, but where would one draw the line of pulling over or continue driving the speed limit?
Going by that logic, I should pull over and let cars/trucks by when I am doing the speed limit on our road (25 mph!) just because they want to do 35mph+..... Maybe my outlook on this is way off, but the e-way with limited access is the place to speed beyond ~ 10%. It amazes me how some will do 35 in a 25 (40% over the limit) as I mentioned, but once on the e-way they will barely do 75 in a 70 (7% over the limit).
Understand that when on 2 lane roads and a passing lane starts, I make sure I move over to the right unless I am also passing a vehicle. I stay right unless passing on the e-way when 2 lanes. When 3 lanes I will either be in the right lane or middle (when towing) depending on the upcoming on ramps to allow traffic to merge. I usually do 65-67mph when towing. And as an arguement to stay right only even when there is 3 lanes (generally in town/city), it is even highly recommended for CDL drivers to use the middle lane due to on ramps for incoming traffic to be able to merge.
This is one of the reasons I have been seriously considering a dash cam for both the front and rear of the truck. It really is sad how so many drivers have the "GTFOOMW" mindset because we are living in their world! This has been proven by posts that state, I pulled over to let vehicles by, and was given "half the peace sign" (which I am guessing is the universal, you're #1 finger!). How many have been cut off by someone, you lay on the horn, and THEY TELL YOU YOU'RE #1???? When they are the ones that did wrong!!!!
What is also sad is even drivers of companies (and even the police themselves) driving like a$$hats, with a rolling billboard on the side/ back of the vehicle. No reason not to use turn signals as an example.
I know I am not perfect, do make mistakes, but try to do my best.
