What would you do?

I enter a provincial campground shower house this weekend, and before showering I'm in one of the toilet stalls (too much information, I know.) I hear a small child, and then I hear a man's voice. Hello? I say. No answer. I exit my stall and sure enough, it's a young dad helping two little kids. I say Oops, I must have entered the men's room by mistake. Nope, you're in the right one, he says, and then says "just about had you going there" Before I could think of anything to say, the mother of the kids exits the shower. I walk outside until they're all finished.

Yes, I'm middle aged and likely entering fuddy duddy territory, but since when has it become acceptable for men to be in women's shower facilities? When we had little kids, one or the other of us would handle bath duties in whatever gender bathroom was applicable. Is this the norm now and I should just learn to deal with it?
