Interesting replies. As a former mechanic with a 20 year old set of tools that probably set me back $30,000 over the 25 years I worked in the trade I have been contemplating what to put in the tool kit.
I figure a socket set and ratchet, 12" extension, a couple of vise grips, needle nose, side cutter, water pump pliers, a few open end wrenches and a Leatherman should do it.
Beyond that- tape, velcro, string. wire, goo glue, fuses and tester, voltmeter, batteries, cellphone and a credit card to call Good Sam, AAA, whoever. Oh yeah screwdrivers:)
