What's the best braking system for a Class A?

I know that a TOAD needs a good breaking system but am unable to find much information on them. What do you use?

  • Sorry, don't know anything about that one.

However, I do recommend either the Air Force 1 or M&G for air system braking or the US Gear Unified Brake system or RV1 system for electrical. All four are excellent install and forget fully proportional braking systems.

As for TPMS.....absolutely! Again several excellent systems are on the market. Do a search here and read about all of them.

    Good luck

ps... and by the way, it braking....not breaking!
  • My coach is a diesel and my toad is a 4 WD Chevy TrailBlazer. Someone just recommended the RV3 breaking system with TPMS. It costs $1200.00 do any of you use it?
  • I have used a Brake Buddy for years on different vehicles. It is quick and easy to use and adapt to different vehicles with different GVWR.
  • I use the SMI Stay-IN-Play Duo. Works great for me. Once installed, just flip a toggle switch to turn it on and off.
  • Class A gas or diesel??? Makes a difference.

As mentioned, best is subjective. There are units that are portable that you have to install and remove at the beginning and end of each trip. There are those that utilize and are connected to the mh's air system (diesels only). Then there are those that are electrical and operate a small vacuum pump and use the toad's power brake system. Then there are those that are part of the tow bar and utilize a surge brake system.

Best is what ever works for you. Give us more info on your mh and toad, and an idea of what type you are looking for.

  • "Best" is subjective. We have 2 cars we can tow so the portable Brake Buddy works best for us.
  • I have 2 toads, the best choice for me was the lightweight low profile RVI 2.
