Yep, it's definitely sticker shock. Maybe that's why so many recommend the Champ. Quiet is not cheap.
wow looked up the honda 3000 and price was shocking. - SWDExplorerYamaha 3000
- pnicholsExplorer IIIt looks to me like the Honda EU3000iS and Champion 75531i are both just about equal at their full power noise levels. Probably the Champion designers targeted the published Honda EU3000iS sound level as their noise goal for their 75531i product right from the start.
I'd seriously consider the Champion 75531i over the Honda due to the Champion most likely being less expensive - plus a great warranty on it:

Ouch.
been thinking of getting one also. hmm - EsoxLuciusExplorerThe Honda 3000iS has rated SPL of 58 dBA at 7 meters at the rated load of 2800 watts (23.3 amps). That supposedly is a bit quieter than normal conversation, but is that level at 23 feet away. I saw someone who had made a collapsable four-sided, open-top box of 1/4" plywood and rigid sound damping material that went over the generator. It was 4 foot high and cut the sound of the unit considerably. To quiet things further it was away from the campsite at the end of a 50' 30 amp power cord.
- stevekkExplorerThanks everyone... being QUITE is my top priority in a Gen for now.
Looks like the Honda 3000is is the best at 58dBA when it runs my air? - 2edgeswordExplorerMy Yamaha 2400ishc starts/runs my 13.5K btu A/C unit.
- AtleeExplorer IIYou asked about a single genny. I'd say at least a 3k Honda, Yamaha. I understand the Champion line is supposed to be pretty good, but at a much better price than the big two.
Presuming the big genny is going to be mounted on your Class C, if I were you I'd also want a genny that could be remote started, and could be hooked to an extended run gas tank.
Since I have to carry mt generator in my pickup, I have twin 2000 Hondas. They don't remote start, but are hooked to an extended run tank. I can load the twins, but couldn't load the 3k Honda.

I have a Yamaha 2800 iSHC. Almost new with only about 2 hours on it.
Mounted on the rear receiver hitch of my Class C.
Thanks. - Tom_M1ExplorerChampion 3100 - 58 dBA at 23 ft.
Yamaha 2400 - 53 - 60 dBA
Honda EU3000i - 57 dB(A) @ 1/4 load - 65 dB(A) @ rated load
Honda EU3000iS - 49 dB(A) @ 1/4 load - 58 dB(A) @ rated load
