Needed repairs on the TV so unhitched the trailer and stayed in a municipal campground in a small, quiet town. We kept the canoe right against the trailer while the truck was in the shop. In the middle of the night, my wife was startled to see the shadow of a person right outside the bedroom window. It was a dark and foggy night and no one else in the campground so she opened the window and shouted at the man to leave. As soon as she did so, we hear "POLICE! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND AND DON'T MOVE". It turns out the man (along with an accomplice we found out later) had been running from the police and thought the dark and (nearly) deserted campground would be a good place to hide. My startled DW put an end to that. The nice officer apologized for the intrusion on our night but it was impossible to get any sleep after a police takedown 5 feet from your trailer! The next morning we noticed two parallel creases in the trailer siding, ostensibly caused by the officer's flashlight as he braced himself while turning over our canoe in case the accomplice was hiding there. The dents will forever remind us of our "worst night ever" camping.
