Prior to money hanging hands.  Prior to signing of anything.  Take it to a non biast qualified reputable service center for a thorough evaluation.  An honest seller will be fine with this and it may benefit him as well.  When I bought my HTT ten years ago the seller asured me everything had been checked out by his service guy.  I said I would be in for a walk through and have everything hooked up and working.  I found broken water lines, blown out water heater, bad batteries.  All this seller fixed to make the sale.  Do you think he would care after the sale?  It's a buyers market
