One thing I know is that in WA state at least, campsites are covered under the same laws as a hotel room. That is, you've got the same privacy and self defense privileges. If someone is cutting through, you may order that they leave and threaten trespass charges and call the police if needed. You can defend yourself if needed (although it's hard to imagine the campground-equivalent of someone trying to break down your door).
