One of the top 10 road trips on a dirt road in the lower 48. RV can make it , BUT . . .:S
Definitely a spectacular drive but not for the faint of heart or RV's. There are long stretches where the dirt road is a single lane and if you encounter someone coming up the grade you are descending guess who has to back up? Lots of folks pull boats up and down this road and some do bring their RV's but like the man said.... "Just because you can does not mean it is a good idea!" :E
The Apache trail north out of Apache Junction, is paved out to Tortilla Flat and a little beyond that before it goes to dirt and then narrow dirt road. Makes for a nice scenic ride and a bowl of Chile, some of the best I've ever had, from atop a saddle (masquerading as a barstool), at the saloon is worth a stop. You will enjoy the ride a lot more if you take your toad. :C
Oops, not the Apache Trail, misread the earlier guess but my comments on the trail stand. :S
