Do you get a pilot light at all? If so, and the safety valve is working you'll get a bigger pilot flame when the thermostat calls for heat. If the oven control valve is bad, you won't get flame at the burner despite this bigger pilot flame. On mine, my pilot doesn't react to the thermostat at all. It worked once when I first got it but hasn't since.
