where did the oil go?
hey all, We just returned from our first TT trip from NC to Key West. It is about 900 miles one way.
F150 4,6l v8 4x4 with towing pkg. Towing a aerolite 718fd, 3050 dry wght.
My question is is it normal to have to add oil to a TV on this kind of haul? I have never towed anything over 50 miles with the trk before. It is a 2004 with about 120,000 miles. I change the oil every 3000 miles and never have had to add any between changes. I checked it in KW and it was down about 1/2 qt. Was down almost full qt on return. Is this normal?
Only thing different is I normally do not get oil changed at the ford dealer, except this time, I had them flush the coolant and replace before leaving and also got them to change the oil. Normally use reg 5-20, I found out today they used 5-20 synthetic blend. Would that make a difference?
Trk ran fine, cooled ok, and pulled ok, although a good bit below the max towing weight it's about all the trailer I would want behind the 4.6l on a long haul.
comments please....
