Where to find RV water line fittings

My TT currently has the crimped on style hoses to all fitings...which means I need to cut out and replace with another type of fitting. Where can I get the fittings and the water line? Maybe my searches were bad but I can't seem to find anyting. Found videos on youtube on how to fix...but not sure where to get the fittings. Hardware store?
NOTE: I am not by my local RV store..am on the road.

  • Home Depot should have the good pex crimper for rent. Our's does, as well as the local rental oufit. Like $12 for 24 hours, all you need...
  • We just looked at a PEX crimper yesterday at Home Depot - $94.00!

"Only" $25 for the "cheapie" one that you need to use a pair of vice grips with. Horribly expensive when the manufacturer of your brand new TC screws up a crimp fitting and ya don't discover it until your are 5 hrs. from the dealer :) And if you need the tubing it comes in 25' rolls... when you only need a 6 inch piece.
  • Please correct me if I'm wrong , but don't Shark Bite/Pro Bite/Gator Bite fittings leak after a while, especially due to vibrations and eventual O-ring failure (chlorine eats at the ring)? There was an article on an Airstream site of one person who used them, found that most of them started dripping, then used another solution.

As far as I read, the ProPEX expansion and ring fittings using either their $400 tool, or a similar tool that costs $200 from Milwaukee Tools (sold at www.tools-plus.com) is the way to go for ensuring lines that won't leak.

If I were looking for something as a quick fix, I'd probably use the crimp/clamp method. If I had the money to do a "real" pro job, I'd probably go for the ProPEX equipment. So far, the ear clamp method seems to be what is used in a lot of RVs, so it doesn't seem too bad.
  • Don't feel bad about finding just a couple of loose fittings in a new RV. We bought a new 2000 Fleetwood class C and they bought it back in the 1st 6 months, as EVERY water line fitting in the coach was leaking. The dealer nor the factory could get to all of the fittings to stop the leaks without removing the floor, so Fleetwood took it back and gave us a new 2001 class A that leaked like a sieve at both slides.......PEX lines with Shark Bite fittings is the only way to go.
  • Not uncommon on a new unit. We just took our first trip in our new TT and had similar problems. I spent some time checking all the water lines, and found a leak on the line going into the hot water heater.

Sometimes these small leaks don't show up right away, and can be overlooked at the dealerships.

  • Thanks...will try a Menards near by (don't know where a homedepot is right now). Just cleaning up the mess (though small) now. Odd thing is I found several fittings that are "loose" ... this is a new TT and our 3rd trip. It's also our 4th unit since 2000.
