where to get reviews ???

We seem to be having a time finding reviews from prior workampers/volunteers. We have searched Workamper.com, RV Forum, Escapees, RV.net, and just plain Google search.....but it seems that we have no success - and the places we are searching are not new; they are established parks, etc. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated !!

  • Nolan,
That forum is an interesting concept. But looking at it , it appears very sparsely utilized. Maybe the same problem we have been talking about despite the rings you have to jump through to join it!
  • Yea, if you put it out there, they will hear. With human nature it will probably make a difference.

I've seen 2 types of workampers. The first likes to come back to the same place every year/season. They should have no fear of competition since they're a known quantity and obviously have something going for them if they keep getting invited back. To the contrary, they may enhance their chances of returning if the employer sees them write a glowing review.

The second type likes to keep moving around the country to see different sights. They would have no motivation to keep quiet about a great campground if they have no intention of returning.

Don't bad mouth a past employer? You're absolutely right. Most of us were probably taught that if you have nothing nice to say about someone then say nothing at all. Hmmm, lack of reviews?

When I first started workamping, I wanted to be part of the solution and write factual, objective reviews after each job. Well, I did that for my first job. It was mostly good but brought up 1 area where the manager had gone back on his word. I checked that review a few months after posting it and found the manager had accused me of having a serious personality disorder. I got the website owner to remove that remark but guess how many reviews I wrote after that?

If you're a paid member of workamper.com you should be able to find some. Unfortunately, very few workampers seem to write reviews, which is a big reason I let my membership expire. Personally, I think one of the big reasons that folks don't write honest reviews is that employers and prospective employers can also read them.

Why shouldn't owners/employers be able to read comments? If your review is accurate, you have right on your side.
Management response is the alternative to moderation. Review responsibly, subjectively, have no worry of recrimination.
I disagree with your hypothesis that there are few reviews due to that factor, do agree with anothers post that few or no reviews on good camps is relative. If you do not hear about a camp, it must be good, or does not need/ , use workcampers.
I 'd start there to find them.

Agree 100%. You can often read between the lines and get an idea of what a place might be like working there. Some reviews are sour grapes but easy to see and overall they are interesting. You can also use Google Maps and get a first hand look at just about any CG by satellite or road front views.
