Where to go with older RV?

Hello,

We recently bought a 1981 RV in good shape, very low mileage, hardly ever used so it looks very good for its age. We want to do long term camping in Oregon in the Summer of 2014 but we have discovered age restrictions everywhere.
Does anyone know where those with older RVs can stay without this rule? We just want to visit family and enjoy the great outdoors.
it's just two adults and a dog.
We have spent countless hours on the phone and websites with no luck.
We appreciate any ideas we can get.
Thank you

  • I have never found a state park, county park, FS park, BLM campground, NPS,county fairgrounds, or COE campground that has age restrictions.

So, in oregon that gives you HUNDREDS of campgrounds close to virtually anyplace you want to go.

I know for a fact that NO oregon state park has any restriction on age. However, they do fill up during the summer, especially near the coast so plan on making reservations NOW especially for weekends.

And, in reality we have found very very few private parks with age restrictions on units.
  • When you phone campgrounds do you ask them if it's permissible to bring your vintage camper? Do you ask them if they have an RV age restriction? I ask these questions because other than seeing some comments on this site about certain parks having RV age restrictions I've never witnessed this kind of problem. Our RV isn't new (12 yrs old), but it's well cared for and never experienced a problem. I've also read many RV park websites and other than the occasional park for class A's only I haven't seen any restricted parks.

As stated above, state, federal, or country parks don't care what age or model RV you have. We have friends with a 1974 GMC converted school bus camper and I know they've never had a similar problem. While they usually use state parks, they have used private CGs too.
  • There are no age restrictions in the Oregon State Parks. If you decide to use us and want to stay for more than 2 days at a time in one place be sure to get reservations. What part of the state are you going to be in?
  • Hey, you have to just think outside of the box. We have had old and new rigs. Our main stay are State, National, and County parks. We love BLM land when it is not extremely rustic, because our rig is now too big for ruddy roads or deep sand. Just pick where you want to go, and look at some of your options.

One of the prettiest places in Texas is Lake Lewisville, Texas, but they don't have sewage at the site. A blueboy comes in real handy. The big thing is that its a city park that was converted from a Corp of Engineer park. Beautiful place. You just gotta dig deep for some great places. Good Luck
