If I count when I was a kid and was introduced to camping when I was 6 months old, lets see....
Ground with tarp and air mattress and actual blankets with me in between mom and dad.
Army surplus canvas tent (with that musty canvas tent smell!) Still was on the ground with blankets.
Same tent, but got actual sleeping bags!
Dad bought a brand new 1971 F250 "Camper Special". We started renting 8' slide in cab over campers. Wow, that was the 'bomb' for camping! We just laughed when it rained out!
Dad got a little 8' slide in non cab over camper with twin bunks and we borrowed a friends 12' Shasta trailer. There was 4 of us now and we all fit!
Then he bought the "palace".. And brand new 1976 26' Taurus 'bunk house' fully self contained trailer.. Now we were really spoiled!
Not long after that, I was in my later teens and didn't go camping with the family anymore and moved out on my own not long after.. Went back to tents with the 'guys' and enjoyed all the camping activities without parents! ;) ;)
Now I have my own 22' travel trailer and the wife and I don't go out near as much as we'd like to, but when we do, it's a blast!
Thanks for letting me share my camping history with you all!
Enjoy it no matter how you do it! :)
