One of my roof vents got blocked up. When I dumped the next time, the large inrush of air destroyed the
AAV (Air Admittance Valve) by the sink trap under the counter. From then on whenever I dumped that tank, it sucked all of the water out of the sink trap, letting in the sewer smell.
I figured out about the broken AAV and replaced it. That fixed the problem, at least until I dumped the next time when THAT AAV got destroyed. After that, I discovered the blockage of the roof vent. I then fixed the roof vent blockage, replaced the AAV again, and have had no problems since.
A test for whether you need to replace the AAV, if you run the sink traps full of water and the smell goes away, the AAV needs to be replaced.
