Which dinghy tow vehicle is suggested?

We are looking for a new vehicle to tow, but have found that the new SUVs and Crossovers are now constructed with the radiator behind the lower grill. We originally had a minivan with a lower opening for installing the towbar, but of course you can't cut into the new ones. We already have a tow kit on the rv and minivan and I would hate to have to purchase a front wheel hauler although it looks as though that may be what I have to do as a last resort. Can anyone suggest a vehicle?
  • The Ford Focus is a nice 4 down tow if you want a light weight and super mileage.
  • We are towing a 12 Honda CRV all wheel drive. The Blue Ox baseplates are designed for very minimal modifications to the original vehicle. Ours bolted on in front of the radiator. Just removed the factory Honda metal bumper and the baseplate bolted into place. The tabs come through existing openings in the Honda fascia and is almost invisible when the tow tabs are removed.

There are several guide available that list vehicle that can be towed 4 down, I am sure others will chime in with the lists. When you come close to picking a vehicle, check the owners manual in that vehicle for directions. Not all guides are completely accurate. For example, the Remco guide (when I last looked) says that towing a new CRV 4 down is not recommended by Honda and Remco, but many people do tow them without problems. Our owners manual does say and give instructions for towing 4 down.
