I am still using Streets and Trips with the GPS receiver. It is easy to update. It has worked for me for 14 years now. Only now my computer is a mini notebook instead of a big laptop. For me, I like it better when driving as the notebook has a bigger picture than the Garmin. I built a stand for it that holds the notebook next to the dash between the driver and passenger seats. Another great advantage is it is easy to do trip planning and explore which roads you want to take.
I was stopped once for speeding by the State Patrol. She let me off with a warning since it was Easter, it was my Birthday, and I was working, also with an admonishment that the laptop wasn't legal.
What! What law is there that makes a laptop in a vehicle illegal? I'm astonished.
