Length doesn't matter - weights do. For many half tons and RVing, rear axle and payload/GVWR of the truck are exceeded well under today's 10k+ tow ratings. Practically, 6k dry is a comfortable limit for even the most capable half tons.
As mentioned, the Eq 4pt, Reese Strait Line, and Blueox Sway pro are all in the same price range ($400-600) and work very well. Their owners tend to be happier than the basic WDH and friction sway which is around $300.
Any proportional brake controller is good. Tekonsha Prodigy line (P2/P3) are really good at their price point ($100-140).
