Why buy a new $125,000 motorhome?

I don't mind if other people choose to give the bloodsucking bankers their money. It's no skin off my back.

For us, however, CASH is king!

As far as I am concerned, whether or not the banks
have the ability to lend,
the onus is still on the borrower to know what he can afford.

No one dragged persons kicking and screaming off the streets
and forced then to sign on the dotted line for a house!

And for what it's worth .... we do have a one piece fiberglass roof, and two generators, and two queen size beds, and distributed air conditioning and heating, and long range Internet access, and long range cellular phone access, and twin deep kitchen sinks, and an outside ducted cooktop exhaust system, and an oven, and heated tanks, and an electric step, and 100% LED lighting, and an outside hot/cold shower, and an outside entertainment system, and two powered roof vents, and seven outside steel carpet lined storage compartments with two of them being extra long for fishing poles/shovels/beach umbrellas, and access from the inside to the outside battery compartment, and it's all on an overkill chassis so the DW can bring home around 2,000 more lbs. of rocks from our adventures.

P.S. I'm just having some fun with ya' - enjoy your luxurious rig!

Just curious, what is about your Class C that makes you think you can go to these places but a more expensive Class A could not? I don't see exceptionally high ground clearance or any sign of 4WD on your class C. So I would venture to guess that most any Class A could get to the places in your photo. The only limiting factor would be any tight turns that a longer motorhome couldn't get around.

I share your feelings as I almost got killed at work myself at 28 years old. Makes you realize you better do what you want to do (within reason) as it can end at any time.

But on the new versus used debate, whether one is cheaper than the other can be debatable depending on what you are looking for and how you're paying. If your a cash buyer used is probably the best way to go. If you're not a cash buyer, then new unit financing is usually better than financing on used units so you may find it's actually cheaper to buy new. You just have to do the math both ways. I did look at used motorhomes before I bought mine, and I couldn't find any that was in a floor plan I liked that had been taken care of like I would take care of mine. So I bought new.

When I was young debt was something to be ashamed of.

When I was twelve, my fathers barn burned down.
He borrowed six thousand dollars to rebuild, we kids were warned, on pain of death to never mention that my parents carried a mortgage.

Not sure how old you are, but mortgages have been around for many many years and if you wanted a house you had one, at least for a couple of generations back. I know my grandparents had a mortgage on their house because I've seen photos of their mortgage burning party when it was paid off, and grandpa was born in 1909. The mortgage burning party was in the 50's.

I think one thing people don't realize is buying things on credit is part of our economy and it's what makes the world go round so to speak. Without people getting mortgages and buying things on credit our economy would grind to halt and if you want to see bad times then you'll really see them when that happens.
