In my business, aftermarket car and truck accessories the manufactures are getting a little fed up with these internet guys selling below what they should sell at.
Hmmmm .... then why don't the manufacturers clean up and/or control their distribution channels better such that their wholesale pricing is higher for the Internet guys so that the Internet guys have to sell higher and hence not be able to undercut the brick and mortar stores on pricing so much?
The manufacturers could control the low-ball Internet pricing much better than they're doing if they wanted to. However, I'll bet that to the manufacturers "a wholesale sale is a wholesale sale" no matter what distributors they sell to ... just like to the brick and mortar businesses "a retail sale is a retail sale" too, no matter what retail customers they sell to.
Brick and mortar sellers need to complain to the manufacturers about how their products are getting distributed instead of brick and mortar sellers complaining to us end customers about where and how we're shopping.
I refuse to pay more for the identical product - it makes absolutely no sense to do this for one on a fixed income - as many RV'ers are.
I'm in communication with the guys at Bushwacker, Warn, Readylift, Pro-comp, Mickey Thompson...... The list goes on and on and some have demanded their product not be sold under a certain price while others don't seem to care. Camping World along with my store have been around a long time, mine well before the internet. It's a daily thing now for customers to walk in and say can you help me make my part I ordered online fit. Oh, these consumers don't want to pay for advice or even me pulling their truck in the shop to see what's up.
I stay busy enough with customer and dealerships that buy from me so when Mr. Online shopper walks in with his whatever he bought it will cost him more to install than if he had purchased it from me. That's just the way it is and most places won't even install parts purchased elsewhere. I know many items bought online don't require install but when they do and shop my store they get the best customer service and are in and out as promised. Gotta love the guy that bought tires for his corvette from tire rack and rolls in and says I need these installed today and expects it to happen at the same install price as a civic not to mention he wants it done NOW.
Like I already said you the customer want the best price so go for it, me the store owner would like to see the internet guys regulated better by the local and state gov and the manufactures. When that happens it may level the price playing field.
