In this case the local health department should have been correcting this. In our travels, we have run across rustic campgrounds with a sign on their water faucets warning 'not potable'. If this particular campground doesn't post that it's unsuitable you need to let some agency know. Who tested the water and found it to have e-coli? This is very unusual.
