The logic of some on this board slay me. Just makes me :S
OP, don't let all the boogie man people scare you off. Here are the facts about bears trying to eat you or your kid like a potato chip: In 142 years Yellowstone has been open to the public only 7 deaths from bears have happened. SEVEN........in 142 years! Link In fact there hasn't been a bear mauling in Yellowstone since 1986 according to Yellowstone's public affairs officer.
In contrast, vending machines kill around a dozen people PER YEAR!
The odds of getting hurt or killed driving around this great county of ours is many, many, many order of magnitude higher than being in Yellowstone park itself.
In fact, suicides happened more in Yellowstone than bear attack's!
My point is, your home can be a very dangerous place (poison, electrical outlets, yada, yada, yada), or anywhere else for that matter if you don't keep an eye on your kid.
Use common sense, keep any eye on things, and go on vacation. Life is too short worry about things where there is no reason to worry about. :)
PS: post some pictures with your kid in front of Old Faithful. It will make a great memory. :)
