Trying to plan something for our 2 week vacation in August, i started thinking seriously about yellowstone and area. My wife thinks our biy will be a bit to young for the area, which i didnt consider...

Nope. Any risk is when you are not prepared for the journey. Our kids went everywhere with us when they were babies, and none of it was with their parents being "naive" about it. We knew exactly what we were doing.
