Over the years of camping I have observed and seen the result of the slobs that have gone camping. These people are only a small percentage of the total camping population, but their messes affect many more people. Their parents never taught them to clean up after themselves and they don't teach their kids. So the "slob" behavior is passed on through the generations.
Many the time I've cleaned the trash out of fire pits. In some cases I've rebuilt a rock fire pit. I've also seen the wooden signage that some one used a hatchet or axe on attempting to get some fire wood.
Both my wife and I had parents and grandparents that enforced the "clean up after yourselves behavior" at a young age. We passed this type of behavior onto our kids and are attempting to make sure our grand kids follow this behavior when their parents aren't around.
Sorry if this sounds like we're a bunch of "goody two-shoes", but we consider ourselves sane environmentalists.
Happy and sane 4TH of July!!
