One of my pet peeves is people that leave cigarette butts laying around the site. Disgusting.
On one trip we made last month, the previous occupant obviously cleaned something out by the water spigot. There was a coating of white all over everything, and I had to hook up my water supply in that area. Yuck.
I've found everything imaginable in the fire pit. Many things that don't burn or even melt. People treat it as their garbage disposal.
There's no doubt why most state/national park forbid alcohol. People do really stupid things when sober - imagine when you add alcohol to the mix.
One thing I learned in all my years of Boy Scouts - you scour the campsite before you leave, and you return it to the state in which you found it (or better). I've never forgotten that and I've tried to instill it in my kids.
When my kids were younger and we were camping in a PU, I almost gave up on camping. Some of the people we encountered were either rude or naive to any camping ettiquette. I remember one time we were sitting by the PU and these three kids came running into our site, and then proceeded to run around our PU playing tag, accompanied by the screaming. My kids were trying to take a nap at the time. I thought people just cutting through my site was annoying.
Another time we were camping in a quad arrangement, where each of 4 sites shared one common post supplying electric and water in the middle. I almost had a heart attack when these kids next door starting filling up water balloons right by the electric supply. I envisioned many kids getting electrocuted. Of course, the parents weren't even paying attention. Once they threw and broke the balloons, the remains were left all over the campsite.
I could go on and on forever about campers who weren't really campers and were just there to have a big party.
