Different states have different vehicle laws. Texas has the "move over or slow down" law where if a police car is pulled over with the lights on, if traffic doesn't go 20 miles under the posted limit in the right lane, it can be a $2000 fine. It is always good to ask and check around. One surprise that I found in CA by reading is that they disallow right turns on red and U-turns. Here in Texas, they are allowed, so it is always good to find that info out firsthand. Ignorance isn't an excuse.
In California, unless it's posted otherwise, you MAY make a right turn on a red light. U-turns are allowed at intersections unless posted otherwise.
