Window screen on refrigerator vents

Yesterday I discovered I had a wasps nest in my refrigerator vents. I went out last night in the pouring rain to eradicate the nest. While I only got stung once, I think I killed the wasps. Only problem is I don't see the nest. Went out this morning and there didn't appear to be any activity. Used my iphone to take pictures of places I couldn't see with the naked eye. Nothing. I used fiberglas window screen to cover the vent holes in both the top and bottom vents. Used duct tape to hold the screen down.

My question, will the screen affect the operation of the refrigerator while being used on propane? I was extra careful not to block any of the venting with tape. My refer is used 100% of the time on propane.

I have the premade Camco screens on order, they will be here in time for next week. I just want to be sure the screening will be fine for the week.

  • I put screens in mine and didnt notice any difference in the fridge operation. Had them on my old one as well for some 10 odd yrs without a problem.
  • I put screens everywhere on my vents, air flow may be a bit less, but wasp flow is much, much less. :)
  • I have no roof vent. The refer is in a slide out. There are two exterior wall vent panels. Both are removable. There is a 12 volt fan in there but it is not running. Not sure if it supposed to run all the time.
  • I've never understand why the manufacturer puts screen on the roof vent but not the bottom one.
  • The screen will reduce the air speed a bit, take the upper fridge vent, four scews and install a 12 VDC fan blowing up, you can pick the electric current from the power supplied to the refrigerator by running a couple of wires down and install a fuse and a turn off switch.

This fan will compensate for the screen and actually help in the summer and you can also place a screen on the chimeny area.
