Mud flaps behind the wheels is all you need - not the advertisement on the rear.
On our Alaska trip folks were actually removing that stiff flap across the rear. We saw the layer of large rocks laying at the base of their windshield from traveling an area of construction. We had just come through the same area and didn't get any damage since we didn't have the big flap.
