Wiring tail lights in a 2013 Ford Focus

I'm going to wire up tail lights in a friends 2013 Ford Focus 4-door.

Which is easier:

1) additional bulbs in the tail light housing or

2) diodes into the existing wiring?

Anything to watch out for in either case?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

  • The separate lights are easy, look at instructions for installing Blue Ox base plate. You will find instructions for installing bulbs in tail lights, I used roadmaster lights. Etrailer has a video on youtube installing lights on Focus.
  • Check out Tow Daddy. easy install and works so far no complaints. Mag lites can sometimes be a pain. As in having metal to attach to and where to store them when you are camped. Tow Daddy.com I believe. Larry
  • Tim,
Let's do this in our usual manner.
    Look at your e-mail.

    Hey Bobby,

I got the .jpg, but it was pretty much unreadable both small and worse when blown up.

Can you do anything else with it?

  • Timmy, me Boyo,

I have a 2013 5-speed Focus and installed a completely separate set of LED lights to avoid messing with the OEM circuits. I sent you a schematic.

The easiest is magnetic lights but if your friend is going with diodes and is going to have supplemental braking, a stoplight relay may be necessary. With separate bulbs and sockets it is just like the magnetic lights.

x2, separate bulbs won't "mess with" any computers in the toad.
