You're right - there are certainly women (AND men) who simply don't want to learn about their purchase. The SMART salesperson will pick up on who is listening to them and processing the information; or in the case of a single buyer - the SMART salesperson will ask questions about what is important to that person - and then will LISTEN to the answers.
Back to the original topic - if you just want to look and not be pestered by salesmen - the easiest way to do that is to be female, take off all your jewelry, put on your sweatpants.....and go shopping.....LOL!!
