Woohoo!

We've been working on our water consumption on our last couple of trips to see how long we can make the 32 gallon gray water tank last. This weekend, we took 6 showers in it. The last one (I took it), I didn't turn the water off while showering because I knew it was going to be the last one. Not sure on my wife's shower as I was outside packing up. When I was done, the tank said 2/3 full. I ran the sink water for a good while in attempts to fill the tank up more before dumping, but never got it full completely. Gave up on it. With the amount of water I just let run in the sink, could of been another shower or two. So I'm thinking we could easily get 8 or 9 showers out of it (and also other sink usages like washing hands, dishes a couple times, etc).

I think that oxygenics shower head is what did it for us. I know in previous years when camping without sewage that I would have to use our tote to dump our gray tank about daily and the gray tank was twice the size at 64 gallons.

There is still room for improvement, but it's a really good feeling.

  • good job. it is good to know your tank limits. We also have been learning our tanks. we are doing more and more limited hookups now.

we can make 7-8 days on pur tanks easily. hubby will also use the bathhouse sometimes to take the pressure off and leave us 2 gals for the camper use. summer we also take fast showers outside if we aren't needing a 'real one' for the evening after coming off the beach or something.
  • I installed the Oxygenics shower head and then added an on/off valve and we take Navy showers.
It is amazing how much longer the fresh water supply will last and the capacity of the grey water tank.
Well worth the time and effort to install it.
  • Gives better pressure than the one that comes with the rv and uses less water.
  • Ours has the on off button, and we use it. Does this head have good pressure?
  • Got it at CW in Statesville. You can buy them online as well. I got mine for $20 but I had a gift certificate that CW sent me and a $5 off the shower head from the GS coupons (member). I think they run anywhere from about $30 on up, depending on where you buy it. Bought ours at CW because we are only about 8 miles away. Saved on shipping.

For the best results, do it navy shower style. Rinse, turn off. Lather up and rinse again. Hair, the same way or if you want to do it all at one time. Don't let the water run continuously. Use the little shut off button. My wife has long hair and shaves her legs in the shower, so there is a little extra consumption there.
  • oxygenics shower head. Where did you get it? Tell me about it. DW, and I fill the grey tank in 2 or three showers.
  • We also felt that the Oxygenics showerhead provided an improved spraying action while using less water, which is important to us since we prefer dry camping and boondocking. We were able to manage about 8-10 showers on a similar sized tank which worked out to dumping every couple of days when camping with our 4 kids.
